In line with previous agreements between Egypt and Israel, and with the goal of bolstering bilateral cooperation, the Government of Israel has approved a plan to expand the infrastructure of natural gas export to Egypt. Promoted by Israel Natural Gas Lines (INGL) and supported by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, the plan involves the construction of a new onshore pipeline, as well as supporting infrastructure, connecting the Ramat Hovav area in the Negev to the Egyptian border near Nitzana. The pipeline has a length of about 65 km, and is projected to allow for an additional 6 BCM of natural gas to be exported to Egypt annually. This is expected to derive around NIS 200 million to INGL for the purpose of developing the natural gas market, as well as hundreds of millions more in state revenues from taxes and royalties.
Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, MK Israel Katz: "The resolution adopted by the Government enhances the potential for cooperation between Egypt and Israel on natural gas, ahead of the decisions we will have to make in the near future on expanding exports. The cooperation between the two countries will generate economic benefits, improve the welfare of the citizens of Israel, and contribute to regional stability. I will endeavor to continue expanding this cooperation in such fields as natural gas, renewables, hydrogen and energy storage."
