Against the background of the growing cooperation in the field of energy, and the establishment of the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF), the ministers expressed their support for the construction of robust and well-connected energy infrastructure throughout the Eastern Mediterranean so as to maximize the potential of the region's natural gas reservoirs.

In their meeting, the ministers addressed the importance of achieving the UN's sustainable development goals 2030 and its global climate targets, one of which calls for a significant reduction in emissions by 2050 alongside other environmental goals.

The Ministers also discussed various opportunities for increasing energy independence for the Palestinians through, for example, ventures such as development of the Gaza marine field, construction of a power plant in Jenin, and the supply of natural gas to the Palestinian Authority.

The two ministers acknowledged that strong energy cooperation between their two countries contributes to energy security and to diversification in their energy resources, while also strengthening the ongoing regional dialog through the EMGF with a view to developing the regional gas market that will allow full exploitation of the potential of the region's gas resources and establishment of a full and multilateral regional trading hub platform.
