The visit included bilateral meetings, including with Egyptian Energy Minister, Tarik El-Molla, and participation in the first Regional Natural Gas Forum.
Minister Steinitz: "I thank the Egyptian Minister for the invitation to visit Cairo. This is further proof that the benefit from the development of the gas reservoirs is not only economic and environmental, but also has geopolitical and diplomatic significance. This is in fact the most significant economic cooperation between Egypt and Israel since the peace agreement between the countries was signed"
The Energy Minister was accompanied by Energy Ministry Director General, Udi Adiri, and Natural Resources Administration Director and Petroleum Commissioner, Yossi Wurtzburger.
In the talks the ministers discussed increasing energy cooperation between Israel and Egypt, including cooperation on exporting gas from Israel and Egypt to Europe.
Minister Steinitz was invited to visit Egypt again this May, when an announcement is expected to be made on the establishment of the Mediterranean Natural Gas Organization with the participation of Israel, Egypt, Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Jordan and the Palestinian Authority, as well as participation of the EU Energy Commission as an observer.
